Rip - The Latest Addition

The front of our house has a rejas/screened in porch and the cats cleverly pulled one of the screens out a little so they can come and go. This gives them a safe spot when running from "bad" cats and rain. Last week I was sitting on the couch and saw a little flash of color that wasn't the usual color of cats we have. I slid open the door just in time to see a little kitten trying to sneak in for some nibblies. Instead of running away, it turned back and ran toward me and you know what happened next...

He's really cute and kind of Siamese-looking. He is really friendly and just wants to be with us! He doesn't have manners yet but has learned to use the cat box (still working on biting through the fingers to get to food). He has managed to piss off the pride to the degree that Princess and Mini don't even come around anymore (it has been 3 days). I think it is a good trade - one friendly, cuddly one for 2 spooky ones. At least they can't reproduce as they go on their journeys.

We are calling him Rip. He has an old-man face kind of like Rip Van Winkle and he sleeps and sleeps and sleeps (when he isn't ripping around chasing things or stalking the other cats).

He is pretty cute and like all Puerto Rico cats is a hybrid of sorts. His front legs are too short, his face is too old looking and he is bow-legged.

I think we are gonna keep him (ya, like we were going to ignore him). Where did he come from? Our house doesn't really have other houses close...he is too little to have trekked down from Maricao. Where is his mother and where are his siblings? Poor little guy needs a home.

He needs a stuffed mouse...and a cool floor to lounge on...

and some grass blades to bat around...

He is one lucky cat and when I get back from St. Croix (aquaponics course) he will go in for round one of shots... then neutering...rounds 2 and 3 for shots. So rest in peace little Rip - we will love you and take care of you. Just stay out of the fruit bowl!

"Tengo un Regalo para Tu"...

Amparo (our neighbor) came over just as I was headed out to Corseca for a few hours on the beach. I decided I couldn't paint any more (my hands hurt) and wanted a little relaxing time in the sun and water. Cuddled in her arms is this teeny tiny kitten.

The story is that it has no mother or father or siblings. Well what could we do? In late February a cat (Feo) that I was trying to catch and spay disappeared a few days before her appointment and apparently had kittens. We haven't seen the mom again and figure she is dead. We never saw kittens, but this is probably hers.

It purred and purred and we think it will be a real cat - one we can touch and hold that wants to be with us and not its siblings! It is very friendly and playful. He (we think) just breaks into play after eating and sleeps and burrows under the bedspread after eating. Just like the big cats.


So today I picked up some milk replacement and a toy.

We'll call him Tuko (because he is fierce like the Breaking Bad character).

He even holds his own with the big cats giving an awesome hiss. I hope the other cats like him - he is a step brother to Mini. We are keeping them separated for the first week unless supervised. A while back we put a real gate in so Amparo can come over without going over barbed wire. We put chain link (4 feet) to encourage the cats to stay put (ha) but wanted Amparo to have free access. Today she came over to check on the cat and told her I was putting a sign on the gate the says: Arroz y Habichuelas Si

Then I checked her pockets for cats when she brought me an empanada for lunch! We had a good laugh ...and she brought over rice and beans for our dinner!

Bepo's Pre-spaying Stuck -in -the -log Batch That Need Good Homes

Who can resist this adorable neutered semi- feral male kitty? He took off after being neutered on Friday but we think he will be back...his family is here. This is Puff 2 and he is really a sweety.

Puff 1 we think is his sister and the one who was stuck in the log. She was spayed last Wednesday and has been hanging around even more. You can see her shaved tummy. She will make someone a nice companion (hint hint hint). She has a lot of fur and is cuter than the photo shows. She has a collar of white. All of these kitties will be nice once they are away from the others. They act like meercats when they are together.

How cute is he? This is Stippedy 1 (yes, he already has a duplicate stunt double we see sometimes). He loves cereal milk and is the pushy, bold little hunter. He has the most personality! He loves his head rubbed. He is like a mini-Junior, he may even be Junior's replacement (Junior was either overwhelmed by kitties and the lead male job or something bad has happened to him - he has been missing for 3 weeks and I haven't found a body).

This is Mars. She is on antibiotics that I syringe down her throat twice a day( not easy) in preparation for spaying in the next couple weeks. I am really partial to her. She is like a little stick figure and I gave her milk replacement and special treats. She is very sweet and small and will socialize nicely (she is on the couch next to me right now).


Here's Blanco, the most beautiful of them all! Snow white with peach on the tail, feet, nose and a touch on the ears. He is slightly cross-eyed with blue eyes (hears just fine). This one would be a good stay-around-the-house cat. He looks like a Siamese cat in a lot of ways, kind of exotic. He isn't neutered yet but will be soon. If anyone knows of a good home for any of them PLEASE let us know. We would like someone who will take care of them (give them shots and keep them safe with lots of love).
